Curator’s Handbook for Managing Controversy

This handbook offers curators practical guidance for handling the complex negotiations—within
institutions, with trustees, with artists, and with stakeholders in the community—involved in creating
potentially-controversial exhibitions. Information was collected through interviews with curators and
museum directors and through a series of curatorial workshops.
